The Self-Initiatives and Self-Development Services (S.I.S.D.)
a division of Community Action of Southern IN offers several financially focused services to help Hoosier Families. We help families to build upon their assets, become more stable, put down roots and climb the economic ladder. Our charge is to provide services we believe all Hoosiers should have in the communities of Clark, Floyd and Harrison County. We provide services to persons and families wanting to save, invest and succeed with money. Funding for these services comes through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and Assets for Independence (AHI).
We provide services in the following areas:
Individual Development Accounts (IDAs),
offers a structured matched savings program to help people start a business, get a college degree or professional training, or purchase a new home. To be eligible for an IDA, applicants must be an Indiana resident, be employed, earn less than 175% of the Federal poverty threshold, meet household size guidelines or receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, be able to save at least $25 per month, and meet other screening requirements
, provide training and consulting in areas of small business development, planning, and technical assistance for the entrepreneur wanting to start or build a small business and live out a dream.
, provides assistance to those who want to start or expand their business but lack access to traditional money sources such as banks.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (V.I.T.A.)
, offers free tax help to people making less than $53,000 per year, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and people who speak limited English.
